The Attorney-General’s advice to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) against the Cecilia Dapaah matter, according to the National Communications Officer of the NDC depicts the President and his Vice cannot fight corruption.

In the words of Sammy Gyamfi, President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia have both been defeated by corruption and cannot steer an administration where perpetrators of the act are brought to book, especially when such persons are part of the administration.

He contends the President and his Vice lack the  commitment to investigate the matter since both are immersed in the canker.

The head of the Communication Bureau of the NDC says the advice the A-G gave to the EOCO was neither here nor there since his mandate doesn’t permit him to decide what is necessary to warrant probe and what is not.

He laid the blame on the President and the Vice saying they would have ensured the woman was cleared if corruption was something they abhorred.

“There is no way we can come to the bottom of this and the many other corruption scandals we have witnessed under this government, under the reign of this corruption clearing agent, President Akufo-Addo, and his complicit Vice President Alhaji Bawumia, who himself is very corrupt, as Lawyer Martin Kpebu has already demonstrated.

“They can’t fight corruption. Corruption has rather fought them and defeated them and converted them to be their chief apostles. So, they themselves are the ones that can say, it is because these leaders themselves are inherently corrupt, that is why they don’t even have any commitment to investigate. We are not saying the woman is corrupt, just investigate,” he said on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, May 04, 2024.

He listed a number of instances where John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the NDC, ensured that persons involved in corruption in his government got punished.

“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, when it comes to the commitment to the fight against corruption, including prosecuting your own party people, nobody under this Fourth Republic has demonstrated that commitment than John Mahama. He did it in the GYEEDA case, he did it in the National Service scandal, he did it in the Smarties-bus branding scandal, where he ensured that payments made under illegal contracts were retrieved for the state. People were prosecuted, including his own party people,” he stated.
