The Foreign Minister of Cuba, Bruno Parrilla, has reaffirmed the deep bonds of friendship and solidarity between Ghana and Cuba, recalling the historic ties that date back to the era of Kwame Nkrumah and Commander Fidel Castro.

Ghana was the first Sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba, a partnership that has endured across decades.

Minister Parrilla expressed appreciation for President John Mahama’s consistent support toward the removal of restrictions imposed on Cuba. He further underscored Cuba’s commitment to deepen cooperation with Ghana, particularly in new areas of economic engagement while advancing ongoing agreements in health and education.

Highlighting one of the most enduring aspects of the relationship, the Cuban Minister noted with pride that Cuba has trained a significant percentage of Ghanaian doctors, an investment that continues to strengthen Ghana’s health sector.

“On behalf of the Cuban Embassy in Ghana we appreciate the Ghanaian Government’s willingness to strengthen bilateral relations between our two countries. You can always count on us to do whatever is necessary to accelerate this noble endeavour,” the embassy said.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in response, thanked Cuba for its steadfast support in building Ghana’s medical capacity.

He assured that Ghana will continue to explore additional avenues of collaboration with Cuba beyond the existing programmes, signalling a commitment to broaden and modernize the long-standing bilateral relationship.
