The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Agyeman Badu, has pleaded with the President, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to complete the road projects in his paramountcy to forestall the needless accidents and deaths in the area.

Work on the twelve kilometre New Dormaa road which was started by the late President, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills in 2016, has halted and posing serious challenges to the motoring public.

Oseadeayo made the appeal during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Phase One Project of the Sunyani Airport Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

He expressed gratitude to the president, asking the gods of the land to replenish the state coffers to ensure such developmental projects are spread equitably to each part of the country.

“This airport has been a headache to us traditional rulers in the Bono region, we are very grateful to you Mr. President for making this airport become operational ones again. We pray that our gods replenish the source of income for this project.

“Notwithstanding, our major challenge is the road networks within the Bono region and we plead with you to complete all stalled roads in the region especially Berekum-Sampa road, New Dormaa-Chiraa road and Wenchi-Badu road,” he expressed.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo said the closure of the Sunyani Airport in 2016 was due to its bad taste which prompted him to start the implementation of the Airport as part of efforts to expand the aviation frontier in the country.

He gave the assurance that Phase two of the Airport upgrading project will soon start and urged the chiefs to ensure that the land is not encroached to make room for the project.

“The rehabilitation of this airport is a critical part of government’s vision to expand the frontiers of the aviation industry in the country and to realize the dreams of aviation hub in West Africa.

”The President later unveiled a commemorative plague signaling the commissioning of the project.

The upgrading of the Sunyani Airport Phase One Project has been completed at the cost of 52.25million Ghana cedis and commissioned by the president.

The Sunyani Airport ceased functioning in 2016 thereby slowing traveling and business activities in the middle belt area. This prompted the government to initiate the upgrading and rehabilitation of most of the structures that were highly undergoing deterioration.

This include the Runway, resurfacing of internal roads and pavements as well as the installation of flight information, fire protection and ventilation systems.

The Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, said government is burnt on creating enabling environment in the aviation industry not only to create jobs and promote business prospects but to position Ghana as the preferred hub and leader in Airport business in West Africa.

“The ministry is committed and willing to continue pursue strategies to make Ghana the aviation hub within West African subregion and beyond. Over the past years we have and will continue to expand the capacity of our air infrastructure and services to respond to the growing demand of our people”.
