The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested eleven individuals in connection with the possession of illegal arms and ammunition tied to the ongoing chieftaincy dispute at Adambrobe, a suburb of Aburi in the Eastern Region.

According to the Eastern Regional Deputy Regional Commander, ACP Richard Appiah, the initial arrest was carried out on Sunday, May 3, 2026, by the Aburi District Police, who apprehended ten suspects during an intelligence led operation within the Adambrobe community.

The suspects, comprising farmers, security personnel, artisans, and a businessman and taxi drivers were allegedly found in possession of prohibited weapons without lawful authority.

Among those arrested are Dawu Joseph, Evans Dekadzor, Kwame Aboagye, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson, Abusuapanyin Owusu Paul, Richard Agyekum, Jerry Johnson Kwame Atilla, and Samuel Obeng aged between 28-56 years.

Police say a cache of weapons and items were retrieved during the operation, including five pump action rifles, 23 live cartridges, a taser device, six mobile phones, and a piece of body armour.

The Police also impounded two vehicles- a Ford pickup truck with no registration and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19 which were allegedly being used to transport some of the suspects

The suspects were reportedly dressed in camouflage uniforms resembling those of the Ghana Immigration Service at the time of their arrest.

A day after the initial operation, Police arrested an additional suspect, identified as Douglas Amoako Danquah, on Monday, May 4, 2026.

He was reportedly spotted participating in a procession within the township, bringing the total number of suspects to eleven.

All suspects are currently in Police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the area and has urged all parties involved in the Adambrobe chieftaincy dispute to exercise restraint as efforts continue to restore calm.
