The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rescued 28 Ghanaian youth from human trafficking in neighbouring La Côte d’Ivoire.
All victims, according to a statement issued by the Ministry on Sunday, May 10, 2026, have all been repatriated to Ghana to aid with further investigations.
According to the statement, the feat was attained through a “successful operation conducted by security operatives and officials of the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan.”
Government, in the statement, advised citizens, especially the youth, to be vigilant of such criminal networks that traffic people under the guise of juicy promises.
“The Government of Ghana conveys commendations to Ivorian authorities for the effective collaboration and shared intelligence.
“The Ministry, therefore, urges the public to be conscious of the dangers associated with engaging unlicensed recruitment agencies which promise travel and job opportunities.
“Ghanaians are hereby advised to be extra vigilant and avoid becoming victims to such trafficking schemes,” it stated.
It added that Government is working towards eradicating such syndicates from the country.
“Meanwhile, the Mahama Administration assures that all efforts are being deployed to dismantle these criminal networks and bring the masterminds to justice.”
The statement further urged the public to be extra vigilant and ensure the authenticity of all recruitment agencies before dealing with them.
“The public is encouraged to confirm the validity of any advertisement/offer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad to avoid falling prey.”
