Government has announced a support package for Ghanaians who are being evacuated from South Africa as a result of the xenophobic attacks being unleashed against other Africans residing in the country.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a public notice assured those affected that Government has put measures in place to ensure their safe return to their motherland and reintegration into society.
These forms of assistance, announced by the Government, per the public notice, is aimed at ensuring those affected get their lives back in Ghana.
Among the packages for the returnees, as announced in the notice, include a “Welcome Home Financial Package” as part of the government’s immediate relief efforts.
Also, the evacuees will be provided transportation to travel to various parts of the country where they hail from, following their arrival in Ghana.
Considering the circumstances leading to the departure of these Ghanaians from South Africa, Government has also provided a reintegration allowance to support returnees to rebuild their lives.
The Ministry has also indicated that there will be psychological support services to cater for the emotional and psychological attacks meted out to some of these nationals.
Furthermore, Government says evacuees would be provided with a special database to help connect them with job opportunities and startup support programmes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the intervention as part of the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad and supporting them in times of crisis.
“We value and cherish all our citizens,” the statement said.
