The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it opened talks with departing Black Queens Head Coach Nora Häuptle in June last year over the renewal of her contract.
After signing a two-year contract with the Swiss tactician in January 2023, the country’s football-governing body said it knew the deal would expire after December 2024.
“Unfortunately, both parties could not agree on the renewal terms,” the Association explained on Saturday, January 4, a few hours after the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced Nora as the Copper Queens coach.
She has been handed a three-year deal with her first major assignment of taking the 2024 Olympics team to Morocco for the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON 2024).
The Ghana FA expressed gratitude to the Swiss for her contribution to women’s football, particularly the Black Queens.
“For the two years that Nora Häuptle worked with the Black Queens, her salary and accommodation was solely taken care of by the GFA,” the FA said.
“The GFA, desirous of continuing the engagement with Nora opened renewal talks with her in June 2024, knowing that her contract would be ending on December 31, 2024.”
It assured that a new Head Coach will be announced soon.
