Ghana Railway Company Limited has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media and some media platforms claiming that GH¢50 million is missing from the company’s accounts or operations.

In a press statement signed by the company’s Public Relations Officer, Randy P. A. Mould, Management described the allegations as “false, baseless, misleading and without any factual foundation whatsoever.”

According to the statement, the publication — reportedly attributed to the Railway Workers Union of Ghana — does not represent the true state of affairs within the company.

The Management insisted no official audit report, investigative outcome or financial review has established the existence of any missing GH¢50 million within the operations of the railway company.

“Management wishes to assure the general public, staff, stakeholders, and development partners that the financial and operational affairs of the Company has always been subjected to the appropriate administrative, financial, and regulatory procedures,” the statement said.

GRCL further indicated that it has invited the leadership of the Railway Workers Union of Ghana to clarify the authenticity, source and basis of the alleged publication. The company urged the public to disregard the claims while reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism in the management of the railway sector.

The statement comes at a time when Ghana’s railway sector has been grappling with labour unrest, salary arrears and operational challenges. In recent months, railway workers have staged a series of protests over prolonged salary delays, with some arrears reportedly stretching beyond a year. The workers have also raised concerns over deteriorating working conditions and uncertainty surrounding the future of the company.

Government and the Ghana Railway Development Authority have since announced measures aimed at stabilising the sector, including the release of funds to clear portions of the outstanding salary arrears and ongoing efforts to reposition railway operations.
