An application for a judgment in default filed by National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, against Fix the Country convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been dismissed by an Accra High Court.

The National Security minister sued Mr. Barker-Vormawor for defamation, saying the minister attempted to bribe him to halt his activism.

Mr. Dapaah’s lawyers had prayed the court to pronounce judgement in favour of their client indicating that the defendant in the case, Oliver Barker-Vormawor had not filed any defence to the suit.

The plaintiffs noted that the defendant had no defence to the suit, the reason he could not file any to that effect.

Albert Kan Dapaah was seeking damages to the tune of 10 million Ghana Cedis from Mr. Barker-Vormawor and an apology from him for the defamatory statements.

Barker-Vormawo’s lawyers in court Thursday, November 30, 2023, opposed the application for judgment in default of appearance, arguing that the application is not appropriate.

The court after questioning the defendant on whether he has a defence to the defamation case or not, asked Kan Dapaah’s lawyers to withdraw the application.

The judge then gave Barker-Vormawor two weeks to file his statement of defence. The case has been adjourned to December 14.
