If “Let Go, Let God” by Xania Monet comes on, 22-year-old Asakia Hawawu Hanaan would likely lose herself in the rhythm, letting the music move her body and soul, and radiating joy that’s infectious to those around her.
A plate of hot “Tuo zaafi” (TZ) with dry okro soup plus a chilled and freshly brew “Zom Kom” or “pito” would be the perfect accompaniment to melt her heart.
Hailing from Sumbrungu in the Upper East Region, Asakia’s educational journey took root at Nadeng-Zein Academy. She then moved on to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi, where she excelled as a debater, leading her school to victories in various competitions. With outstanding WASSCE results, she earned admission to Christian Service University, where she pursued a degree in Communication.

After completing her one-year mandatory National Service at the Supreme Court of Ghana, Asakia w as thrust into the spotlight once again, this time as her region’s representative in this year’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, a comeback opportunity after falling short last year.
Asakia says her return to the competition has been inspired by its transformative power, and she’s eager to undergo that same transformation, emerging as a woman of substance. And yes, the journey has equipped her with confidence, fearlessness, and charisma. She’s now a compelling presence on the cultural scene and a force to be reckoned with.

To her, the GMB competition goes beyond just the crown and title; it is an opportunity to lead, inspire and make a positive impact. The platform is not just a stage for recognition but responsibility, and she would use it to drive change and empowerment.
Asakia, which means “acceptance”, believes women should be empowered with the right tools, resources and information to not only serve and warm men’s beds but also plant, harvest, innovate, and feed their nation. She yearns for a world where young women won’t run away from the soil, but run toward it, empowered, educated, and equipped to lead.

A project she hopes to embark on with or without the crown and bragging rights of Ghana’s Most Beautiful. She has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by hardworking female farmers and the impact of food insecurity in our communities.

As the tenth representative from her region to book the grand finale slot, she will be vying to become the second winner from the Upper East Region, following Queen Poka’s 2013 win.

Twenty nominations and five awards are under her belt as she prepares for the 19th of October battle with the other four contestants for the crown, cash, car and bragging rights.
