A fire broke out at the Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Friday (October 31) morning. Firefighters from the Kukuom and Goaso fire stations in the Ahafo Region received a distress call about a fire outbreak at 7:12 a.m. and the Kukuom fire crew arrived at 7:30 a.m.

Reinforcement from the Goaso Municipal fire station followed, and the combined efforts of the two crews brought the blaze under control at 8:45 a.m. and finally extinguished it at 10:26 a.m.

A statement released by the Ghana National Fire Service said preliminary investigations suggest that the fire started in one of the dormitories on the first floor of a one-storey dormitory block and spread through six other rooms on the same floor, destroying the roof, ceiling, personal effects, books, beds, and bedding.

Two fire extinguishers on the affected floor also exploded during the incident. Firefighters were able to salvage the ground floor of the affected building from catching the fire.

Investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the fire, and fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
