Champions Bibiani Goldstars SC lifted hopes of successfully defending their Ghana Premier League title after a 2-1 win over Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

The Miners’ skipper, Samuel Atta Kumi, also continued his fine scoring form, in hunt for this season’s Golden Boot, after scoring in the Matchday 24 encounter.

He opened scoring at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani as his side jumped to the lead barely 15 minutes into the highly-expected game.

But Henry Kwaku Boateng equalised for the Phobians in the second half to lift hopes of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s side keeping their remarkable away record.

Forward Augustine Boakye, however, struck at the death for the champions, breaking the hearts of Hearts’ fans in Bibiani.

The match ended 2-1.

The win takes the point tally of the Miners to 45, just a point behind leaders Medeama SC, who were held to a goalless draw at Swedru All Blacks.

By the results, the title race has been thrown wide open as the two, especially, fight to the end.

Goldstars’ next opponents will be Young Apostles while Medeama host Hohoe United in their next encounter.
