It was spontaneous and instant astronomical growth from having just one Instagram follower to a thousand plus followers in less than 20 minutes for gospel musician, Mary Owusu, on Onua Showtime with McBrown.
On Sunday, October, 27, 2024, the studio audience and viewers of the Onua Showtime on television and online were as shocked as the host Empress Nana Ama McBrown, upon discovering that Mary Owusu had only one person following her on Instagram.
This got Empress McBrown to ask her audience to follow her guest’s social media handles and help push her career to the deserving pedestal because in her estimation, Mary has good songs and what it takes to succeed is if she was given the needed support.
The appeal fell on good ears and instantly saw the Holy Ghost Fire hit maker’s Instagram following grow hugely in the space of a few minutes on live television.
This is not the first time and won’t be the last time that Empress McBrown would impact the lives and careers of her guests on her most watched television show.
Significantly, social media platforms have become very important aspects of daily lives and play important roles in the marketing and promotion of goods and services. Therefore, having a large social media following is a big deal.
Mary Owusu shot up to fame in Ghana’s gospel scene with her hit song Holy Ghost Fire on her debut album in 2007. She went on to release a second hit album ‘Ahitophel Agyenatuo’ in 2012 and followed up with a third successful album in 2015 with the hit song ‘W’ow Nkwa Wo Wor Ade’ that got her a nomination for the Gospel Song of the Year at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards.
However, Mary Owusu went quiet from the mainstream music scene for a long time after her highly successful third album. Ogya, as she is affectionately called, has resurfaced with her latest single titled ‘Divine Selection’ from her upcoming album.
The song conveys the message of gratitude to God for his countless favor, provision and protection. It is the appreciation for the gift of life and an admonishment for people to keep trusting God at all times.
The elated Mary Owusu expressed her gratitude to McBrown and the people of Ghana for showing her such an overwhelming love and appealed for more support to push her career forward.
