President John Dramani Mahama has promised the people of Western North Region a new ultra-modern stadium to be built as part of government’s policy under sports and recreation.

According to him, this is part of a bigger promise of having new stadiums in the six newly-created regions of Ghana.

President Mahama also indicated that regions without such facilities will have one.

“Under Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia are to be built for the six new regions and other regions that do not have them,” President Mahama stated on Tuesday, July 15 while on a Thank You Tour in the Western North Region.

He disclosed that the sector minister, Kofi Adams, is already superintending over the design of these infrastructure.

“As I speak, the Minister of Sports and Recreation is overseeing the design of modern sports stadia for the six new regions and the regions that don’t have them and so Western North is going to receive a modern sports stadium.”

The country currently has modern stadiums in some of the major cities like Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Sekondi-Takoradi and Cape Coast.

Some of these facilities are in deteriorating condition.

Last year, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium that hosts most of the country’s international games was banned due to its poor pitch.
