There was a near stampede when gun shots were fired into the air at the ongoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Executives Election at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Sunday, November 13, 2022.
People were seen running helter skelter when 5 protracted gun shots were fired.
The incident which happened at the main gate of the stadium forcced many people to leave the place.
The gun shots followed the arrest of a ‘machoman’ who allegedly slapped a police officer at the main entrance of the event.
Some group of heavily built men had gone to intervene for the release of their colleague but the police fired the warning shots to disperse them.
“One machoman slapped the policeman and they put him in the car. The other 10 machomen wanted to take their guy out of the car and the police fired 5 shots and we all started running away,” an eyewitness said.
The arrested machoman has been whisked away by the police.
The incident, however, did not record any injury or affect the voting process which was going on smoothly.
