The Member of Parliament for the Tamale South Constituency where Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) is situated, Haruna Iddrisu, has waded into the toilet cubicle-turned-dormitory brouhaha in the school.

Mr. Iddrisu has said he supports the decision by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch investigations into the matter to ascertsin the veracity of the issue.

Reports on social media accompanied by a viral video Monday, April 17, 2023, indicated some students have been sleeping in a toilet cubicle at the school which got many disturbed, especially people whose wards are in the school.

The GES upon sighting the video has asked the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster of the school to step aside for investigations to carry on.

In a statement issued Monday, the former Minority Leader in Parliament said “the conditions in the purported video, if true, are unfortunate and disappointing. I therefore support the decision by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to institute an independent enquiry into the matter in order to give assurance to parents and the general public about the safety and wellbeing of students of the School.”

Whilst he awaits the outcome of the investigations ordered by the GES, the MP has tasked stakeholders in the education sector to conduct a holistic review of the educational infrastructure in the various schools to ensure Ghanaian students get the best in that regard.

“Whiles keenly awaiting the report from the investigation, I call on Government, the GES and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to take a comprehensive review of the infrastructure requirements and other complimentary facilities needed to support effective teaching and learning in School,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, he said “I shall be visiting the School as Member of Parliament for the Tamale South Constituency, to ascertain things for myself.”
