President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed shock over why the family of the late former President, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, has not received his autopsy report up till date.

According to Akufo-Addo, since Prof. Mills died whilst serving as President, the autopsy report, after being given to the family, should also be kept in the public records.

“I don’t understand why you’ve still not received the autopsy report yet,” he said and questioned the President of the Atta Mills Foundation, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, who led the family to the Presidency; “is there a reason for it?”

The President’s comments follow a request made by the Kyedomhemaa of Ekumfi traditional area, Nana Enyimfua III, for the President to help them secure the report to know what took the life of their kinsman.

According to the family, since Prof. Mills’ death in 2015, they are yet to know what killed their relative.

Pleading at a visit to the Jubilee House to thank the President for renovating the Asomdwe Park –the burial grounds of the late former President, –Nana Enyimfua said the autopsy report will serve as a learning curve for the family and for posterity.

“One big problem I have as a queen mother in the family is that, since I assumed the seat, I have not seen any autopsy report and that’s the biggest problem of my family and I because if someone asks of the cause of my kinsman’s death, I don’t know whether the doctor said he had a broken limb, neck or drank something.

“So, we’ll plead with you and your government and I plead on behalf of the entire family to get the family the autopsy report so we can keep it for posterity sake. Because neither myself nor any child from the family knows what killed our relative. This is my utmost plea to this house today.

“Please, I’m on my knees, and on my stool’s behalf plead with you to get us the autopsy report before you exit office,” she pleaded.

Following the President’s question as to if there is a reason to the delay of the report to the family, Mr. Anyidoho said no autopsy report was presented to anyone that he is aware of. However, it was the late President’s brother, Samuel Atta Mills, who said during an interview he granted to a media house that, the report is in his possession.

“We’ll have to find out how to proceed on that. “But it’s a legitimate demand,” President Akufo-Addo concluded.
