Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has said they deserved more from Sunday’s defeat to Cape Verde in the Africa Cup of Nations.

He said the winner came just when the Black Stars were coming into the game.

Despite the 2-1 defeat, the Ghanaian defender was named Man of the Match after the game.

He scored the equaliser but that did not count enough as Garry Rodrigues struck late in injury time to win the game for the Blue Sharks.

“We deserved more from the match,” the Fenerbahce defender told CAF media.

“Just when we were coming into the game, we conceded the second goal, even though we were on top of the game.

“We didn’t create many chances, we didn’t utilize the few chances we created, it is why we couldn’t win.”

Djiku’s goal on Sunday is the first for his country at this year’s tournament while he also scored the last goal at the last edition in Cameroon.

That campaign remains the Black Stars most disastrous ever after they failed to win a single game at the tournament, exiting at the group stage.

“I was in the team during the last AFCON, our elimination in the first round remains the worst memory of my career and I don’t want to relive that.”

Ghana will next face Egypt before taking on Mozambique in the final group game.
