The Teranga Lions of Senegal are seeking to join the likes Cameroon, Egypt and Ghana as the countries to have won the Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back.

They began a defence of the title they won in 2022 in Cameroon with a 3-0 win over The Gambia.

Pape Gueye broke the deadlock a few minutes into the game at the Stade Charles Konnan Banny in Yamoussoukro on Monday, January 15.

An infringement incurred by Gambia’s Ebou Adams saw him going straight into the referee’s books. He was given a red card.

This gave the 2022 champions the numerical advantage after the break.

Metz youngster Lamine Camara scored two stunning goals to give his side the maximum points.

It appeared a comfortable win for the champions.

They will next face Cameroon while the Gambia come against Guinea.
