Broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart has shared how he rejected appointments from the government of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on two different occasions.

The broadcaster who is known for his persistent criticism of the government has been accused by a section of the public for being hard on this administration because of his personal parochial interest.

Some have alleged he has expected a goody from the government after campaigning for them to come to power, failure of which has made him bitter.

But speaking Wednesday, February 22, 2023, the Maakye host on Onua TV indicated he was given a deputy ministerial appointment which he rejected, after which it was upgraded to a substantive minister which he equally objected.

He was speaking about the slow pace of work on the infrastructure development for the African Games despite taking a loan of over $535million whilst the estimated cost for the project is $38 million.

“I told you the African Games was going to be postponed and the social media landguards came to insult me. You people say I criticise the government because I want to be induced. No! Let me tell you today, I don’t need anything from this government. I was offered a deputy ministerial appointment and I rejected. After that they said, okay, let’s give you the minister of Chieftaincy and Culture and I rejected that as well. If you meet Nana Addo, ask him. That’s why when you go to cabinet meeting, Nana Addo tells you not to mind me because I don’t want anything. If you meet Napo, ask him. Those of you who say I want a car, wouldn’t I have gotten a car as a minister?” He quizzed.

The African Games has been postponed by the stakeholders of the competition following a meeting in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Ghana began preparations for the competition, including the unveiling of the mascot, logo, and website for the challenge in December 2021, after winning the bid to host the rest of Africa in 2018.

However, a number of factors, including disputes between key parties such as the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOCA) and the Association of African Sport Confederations (AASC), cast doubts on the proposed event’s viability.

All issues have been resolved following a meeting held in Addis Ababa between The African Union (AU), ANOCA and AASC.

But in order to give the host country, Ghana, more time to finalize preparations, the games will now take place in 2024, with the exact date yet to be announced.

New disciplines in the competition are expected to include arms wrestling and rugby.

Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast are expected to be the three cities to host the competition.
