A 2024 independent presidential hopeful, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten, has encouraged the participation of the private sector in the development of sports infrastructure in the country.
Speaking on Ghanakoma evening political show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin, Mr. Kyerematen explained that the private sector should be encouraged to invest in sports in the country.
This, according to him, would include the establishment of sports academies.
The current state of Ghana’s sporting facilities have become a major talking point in recent months, with many criticising the lack of quality standard facilities and the poor maintenance of the ones that already exist.
He pledged his support to oversee investment in the construction of “world-class” sports infrastructure in the country if elected president of Ghana in 2024.
“Government takes upon itself many responsibilities despite it’s financial challenges and that cannot work, therefore when I become the president of the country, I will allow private sector to invest in sports for the betterment of our football. With this approach, we will see how far we can transform our game.
“My Government will also provide every needed incentive to entice the private sector to invest in sports. It could be financial support to these businesses because sports is more like a commercial enterprise that rakes in revenue with every investment compared to many other sectors of government.
“The government of America doesn’t directly invest in sports unless there is a big event like Olympics but rather it facilitates for the private sector to come on board by enticing them with incentives. That is what my government will be doing,” he indicated.
