The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has jabbed the government for the collapse of several financial institutions that has increased unemployment in the country.

He says the collapse of the banks by the government has rendered over 50,000 people jobless after closing down almost 430 financial institutions.

Speaking after the #OccupyBoG demonstration in Accra Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Member of Parliament noted President Akufo-Addo is systematically collapsing the country with his poor management.

According to Dr. Forson, the banks collapse has turned many workers into taxi drivers.

“Our message is that, President Akufo-Addo has appointed a man and made a governor at the Bank of Ghana and we call him Governor Addison the printer. His two deputies are called deputy printers who all assumed office in 2017. From 2017 to 2023, they have systematically collapsed the country. The first thing they did was to close down microfinance and savings and loan companies that belonged to persons who were not NPP. They have collapsed 426 savings and loans and microfinance. Over 50,000 people have lost their jobs and today many bank managers have become taxi drivers and some are now uber drivers,” indicated.

He alleged further that the exit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2019 was the beginning of the printing of currencies by the Bank of Ghana to start printing notes for the government.

“In two years, they have printed 770 trillion (in old Ghana Cedis). They have exhausted the ink of the printing machine and they won’t hesitate getting a photocopier machine to photocopy the notes if the need be,” he added.

The Minority Leader alleged that funds allocated for many projects were embezzled by cronies in the NPP government, including those being used by the Vice President for his ongoing campaign.

The Minority in Parliament in conjunction with pressure group, Arise Ghana, staged the protest to occupy the central bank to demand the governor’s resignation with his two deputies for what they call a mismanagement of the bank.
