Former Black Stars head coach, James Kwesi Appiah is open to coaching the Black Stars again, as the search for a new senior national team coach continues.

The former Ghana international has availed himself for a third stint as Black Stars coach.

Appiah first coached Ghana from 2012 to 2014, and was in charge when the Black Stars competed in the World Cup in Brazil, but was fired after the tournament.

He returned for a second stint in 2017, which also lasted two years, as his contract was not renewed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after Ghana failed to impress at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Following Appiah’s departure, Charles Akonnor was appointed, followed by Milovan Rajevac for a second stint before Otto Addo led the team to Qatar for the World Cup.

Otto Addo resigned after Ghana were eliminated from the group stage, leaving the top position vacant.

Since then, the GFA have been looking for Otto Addo’s replacement.

Former Brighton coach Chris Hughton, who was a member of Otto Addo’s backroom staff, has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the position, and now Kwesi Appiah has expressed interest.

“The fact that I have not come out to say I have stopped coaching if the opportunity comes and I can help why not,” the former Asante Kotoko star said in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.

“Once coaching is my destiny if I’m approached and I can help why not.”

Kwesi Appiah was last in charge of Ghanaian lower-tier side Kenpong Football School.
