Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza has said the construction of the Ekye Amanfrom Bridge will soon commence with contract for the project set to be signed today, January 27, 2026.
“This morning when I get back to the ministry, I will be signing the contract for the contractor to commence work on the Ekye Amanfrom Bridge,” he noted in an interview on TV3 New Day, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The approximately 3.0 to 3.6 kilometres bridge when completed will be the biggest and longest bridge in the country and expected to cross the Afram River, to connect Adawso and Ekye Amanfrom in the Eastern Region.
The bridge aims to replace the current reliance on a pontoon ferry, which is the primary means of transport for residents and farmers.
It is expected to unlock the agricultural potential of the Afram Plains by linking food-producing enclaves to major markets, reducing post-harvest losses and food inflation.
Upon completion, it is projected to be one of the longest bridges in Africa. It will include two lanes, a walkway, a service lane, and toll/weight stations.
The project is in the design and feasibility stage under the “Big Push” infrastructure programme with construction expected to commence this year.
The project includes the rehabilitation of over 100 kilometres of feeder roads, such as the Bunso-Adawso and Ekye Amanfrom-Donkorkrom stretches, to enhance regional connectivity.
