An Immigration officer has been killed while another is critically wounded after an attack at the Gbintiri inland checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality near Nalerigu in the North East Region.

The attack, which occurred around 1:30 am on October 3, 2025, claimed the life of Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICOII) Rafiq Mohammed and left AICOII Oppong Daniel with severe gunshot wounds to the jaw and back.

Police in Nalerigu have confirmed the incident and have launched a full-scale investigation.

AICOII Rafiq Mohammed died at the scene, while AICOII Oppong Daniel is battling for his life at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.

Authorities recovered an AK-47 shell and a Ghana Immigration Service rifle with registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646 from the location.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Public Relations unit, Robert Anabiik Anmain, the North East Regional Police Command is treating the incident as a high-priority case, with investigations underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ascertain the motive behind the attack.
