A brace by captain John Antwi gave Ghana’s Dreams FC a 2-1 away win over Mali’s Stade Malien de Bamako in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final tie.

After a goalless first half, the Malians opened the score in the 53rd minute through Yoro Mamadou Diaby.

But Captain Antwi equalised eight minutes later.

Midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah’s ball was adjudged by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to have hit the hand of a Malian defender in the penalty area, giving the visitors an opportunity to go ahead from the spot.

Captain Antwi stepped up and converted the penalty to put his side in the lead for the first time in the game.

The match stayed 2-1 till the center referee blew his whistle to end the game.

The win is the second away win for the Ghanaians in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, having beaten Angolans side APC Lobito 3-2 in the group stage.

The second leg is scheduled to be played on Sunday, April 7 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
