Medeama SC’s push for a Ghana Premier League title this season took a jolt after losing 2-1 to Dreams FC on Sunday.
The 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup semi-finalists made their intentions clear early in the game as they drew first blood in the 19th minute through Adams Aminu.
They kept this margin at the Tuba AstroTurf until the break.
Just two minutes into the second half, Abdul Razak Salifu doubled the lead for the hosts.
With second-placed Bibiani Goldstars SC leading Vision FC in the other top-of-the-table fixture, Medeama came under pressure with a determination to get at least a point from the game.
Playmaker Kelvin Nkrumah halved the deficit with 15 minutes to go, lifting hopes of a comeback.
However, the score stayed the same as the former champions not only lost a Matchday 26 game but their position at the top of the log.
They drop to second on 46 points with Goldstars SC moving atop the standings with 48 points after they held on to that Michael Nkoah strike.
While Medeama take on bottom-placed Eleven Wonders in their next game, the champions will travel to Tamale to face Karela United FC in what is going to be a hotly-contested title race to the end of the season.
With the win in Sunday’s game, Dreams FC move up to the top half of the table.
They currently lie 9th with 34 points. Their next game will be away to Hohoe United.
