The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for financial support to address critical equipment shortages hindering quality healthcare delivery.

At a meeting with the BoG Governor, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama and senior management in Accra, Dr. Baidoo emphasized the urgent need to upgrade obsolete medical equipment and expand infrastructure at Ghana’s second-largest referral hospital.

KATH serves as a vital healthcare hub, receiving referrals from 12 out of 16 regions due to its specialized services.

However, aging and malfunctioning equipment including CT scanners, MRI machines, and oxygen plants are severely limiting its capacity to provide advanced care. Additionally, essential tools like a Catheterization Laboratory (CATHLAB) and mammogram machines are entirely absent.

“The current state of our equipment undermines our ability to deliver cutting-edge medical services. With limited government funding, we are calling on corporate Ghana, including the BoG, to partner with us in securing these life-saving resources,” Dr. Baidoo stated.

Governor Asiama acknowledged KATH’s critical role in national healthcare and assured that the bank would review the hospital’s equipment proposal for possible support.

“We recognize the importance of a well-equipped KATH and will carefully assess how best to assist,” he said.

The meeting marks a continued push by KATH’s leadership to secure public and private funding to modernize its facilities and improve patient care.
