The Dean of the KNUST School of Medical Sciences, Professor Akwasi Antwi-Kusi has expressed concern over rising indiscipline among the Ghanaian youth.

He particularly criticized poor time management and the reckless use of social media.

“Many young people today ignorantly post content online without considering how it may harm their future prospects. Discipline begins with self-awareness and responsible decision-making,” he cautioned.

Prof. Antwi-Kusi was speaking at the launch of the 65th anniversary celebration of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS).

The event themed “Celebrating 65 Years of Discipline and Responsible Behavior: Pathway to Sustainable National Development,” brought together alumni, current students, education stakeholders, and dignitaries to reflect on the institution’s legacy and the critical role of discipline in shaping Ghana’s future leaders.

Prof. Antwi-Kusi who is also an old student of the school called on fellow alumni to support their alma mater, stating, “giving back to KNUST SHS is not just an obligation but a way to ensure future generations benefit from the same values that shaped us.”

The Ashanti Regional Deputy Director of Education, Thomas Boateng, advised students to prioritize their education and avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their future.

“Your time in school is a golden opportunity to build a solid foundation. Stay away from distractions and commit to excellence,” he urged.

Headmaster of KNUST SHS, Mr. Duodu Antwi Boasiako Anthony also emphasized that discipline remains the most effective tool for personal and national development.

“Discipline is not just about following rules; it is about cultivating habits that lead to success. If you master discipline, you master your future,” he told the students.

The anniversary will culminate in a grand durbar later in the year, bringing together past and present students to celebrate the school’s contributions to education and national development.
