The Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi has sentenced three Nigerians into 10 years imprisonment for their involvement in various vehicle theft offences within the Kumasi metropolis in the Ashanti region.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, during a patrol operation targeting parked vehicles, arrested the convicts on June 20, 2025.

On July 22, 2025, the convicts, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze appeared before the court where Russel Ekenze pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Meanwhile, Friday and Agwazie, his accomplices, pleaded not guilty and were handed separate trial.

A day later, 23rd July 2025, Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts each and handed them 8-year concurrent sentences. On the same day, Circuit Court 1 also imposed an additional 20-year concurrent sentence on all three convicts for related charges.

On July 24, 2025, Circuit Court 2 convicted Ekenze again, adding another 10 years imprisonment with hard labour, which was also to run concurrently with the earlier sentence.

The three men are now serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command described the convictions as a significant step in the fight against organized and transnational crime, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The Command also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
