Broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart has alleged that the La General Hospital was pulled down because of the National Cathedral project.

He has dared the presidency to challenge him if his claims are false for him to prove to the world that the hospital was demolished for the administrative block of the botched National Cathedral.

“The Chief of Staff should come, the President should come and tell me otherwise. They pulled down the block because they wanted to use the place for the administration block of the National Cathedral,” he said in Twi Wednesday, May 10, 2023, on Maakye, the morning show on Onua TV/FM.

Berating the quietness of Ga indigenes and opinion leaders, he called out Prof. Martey and Apostle Opoku Onyinah, asking those fronting the project to apologise to Ghanaians.

“Prof. Martey, you called for the wisemen but now they are pulling down structures on Ga land and you’re saying you now talk to leadership through text messages. You couldn’t find your phone during the previous administration right? That tine you had a voice but now you have a phone.

“The men of God leading the National Cathedral would have come to apologise to the nation if they had any shame. Apostle Opoku Onyinah, are you not ashamed that you follow politicians to fool the entire nation including the Church of Pentecost?  Are you not ashamed Rev. Kusi Boateng? We pay tithes and you men of God misuse it and you still have the guts to go back and wear your clerical. You preach to us about how bad fornication is, but forget that corruption too is bad. And all the men of God are quiet,” he was disturbed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has promised to ensure that the La General Hospital will be constructed despite some bottlenecks in the process.

In July 2020, the facility was demolished after the hospital’s administration in 2015 reported of severe structural problems.

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on August 10, 2020, cut sod for the commencement of construction of the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project.

The delay in constructing the project has outraged residents and the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, among others.

But the Public Relations Officer for the Health Ministry, Isaac Baah Ofei in December said government is making frantic efforts to get the hospital built.

“Government is seriously working within timelines. Government is seriously pushing for the people of La because we are being held accountable, I do not want to put out a date but one thing I can say for sure is that, the Minister is not happy with the situation. He is not sleeping on the matter and has thus taken it upon himself to consult and engage. So the people of La will have access to healthcare once the project takes off.”
