Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has paid tribute to the late highlife music legend, Daddy Lumba.
Lumba died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025 after a short illness.
In a statement from the Tourism Ministry on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Minister described Lumba as a “cultural force” who was more than a musician.
Dzifa Gomashie noted that Lumba’s passing is a loss to the music industry and Ghana as a whole.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I join the entire nation in mourning the loss of one of Ghana’s most cherished musical icons, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba,” the statement said.
The Minister further eulogised the highlife legend stating that he was a musician who through his “timeless compositions, unforgettable melodies and unique lyrical style, elevated Highlife music to unprecedented heights, shaping its evolution and drawing global attention to Ghana’s rich musical heritage.”
“His influence inspired generations and his work became the soundtrack to the lives of many Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora,” Dzifa remarked.
The Minister stressed that Lumba was a great ambassador for Ghana who showcased the soul of the nation with pride, dignity and excellence whether performing on local stages or before international audiences.
“His legacy will forever remain a cornerstone of Ghanaian culture and the creative arts,” she added.
The Minister extended heartfelt condolences to Daddy Lumba’s family, fans and the entire creative community.
“We again join H. E John Dramani Mahama and the millions whose lives were touched by his music in mourning this immense loss,” the statement said.
