President John Dramani Mahama is embarking on a peace-building visit to Bawku and Nalerigu in the Upper East and North East regions respectively.
The President will be meeting leaders of feuding factions in these communities to broker a deal to ensure there is peace after prolonged years of conflict in the areas.
In a media advisory signed by the Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and issued Tuesday, January 14, 2025, it said the President’s return journey hopes to ensure the stakeholders will come together to smoke a peace pipe after engaging with them.
“The President is determined to resolve the decades-old conflict in Bawku and will use the visit to engage the conflict factions and key stakeholders to promote dialogue to achieve lasting peace,” it said.
Bawku has been plagued with conflict for some years now with the two feuding factions attacking each other with the least opportunity.
The milieu was recently renewed with some fresh attacks on groups of people leading to the death of some of the victims.
There have been calls for state security to proffer means to resolve the conflict that has cost many lives and properties to ensure there is peace.
