Between two evils, there is always a lesser one, the reason Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign, has lauded President Akufo-Addo’s comments about handing over power to that of Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi.
According to her, the Bryan Acheampong “we won’t hand over power to the NDC” statement had been made by President Akufo-Addo in Kumasi already but how he chose his words and the manner with which he delivered it did not raise eyebrows.
Madam Mogtari says even though President Akufo-Addo’s statement isn’t different from that of Bryan Acheampong, his tonation and demeanour changed everything.

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed the desire to hand over power to an NPP government in 2025 but indicated that would be determined by the internal party actions leading to the next general polls.
“Every step taken now leading to 2024 is going to be decisive either to give us victory or not,” he told party delegates in Kumasi on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
The President had indicated competition within the party could not be avoided but “it help the party and not hinder it so we can break the eight”, a statement he made whilst introducing his entourage to Otumfuo at the Manhyia Palace which included persons seeking to become flagbearer of the party.
Meanwhile, the private legal practioner speaking on Onua FM’s Drive Time show, Efie Ne Fie Monday, April 17, 2023 said “Akufo-Addo chose his words very carefully , his tone was also very very different, he was expressing a wish but he put it in very legal language.”
She told host Dr. Prekese that the presence of Vice President Dr. Bawumia on the same platform Bryan Acheampong made the statement is what makes it more worrying, adding that the tone Bryan used on the day was unwholesome.
“I’m soft spoken, some people speak very harshly and in harsh tones some speak loudly and in loud tones. And don’t forget, it wasn’t only the honourable Bryan Acheampong, on that same platform was our sitting Vice President and at the same walk.
“President Mahama always says this that in Ghana here we have nowhere to go, should something happen I don’t know elsewhere I’d take my passport to, do you understand?”
Madam Bawa, however, revealed “it is our priority to fix the economy, repair the abysmal performance, to rectify the failed promises that have not been delivered” rather than to “merely “hold on to power” when they win the elections in December next year.
