Marine Police personnel have intercepted a wooden canoe loaded with 2,030 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis at Ada in the early hours of Thursday, September 17, 2026.
According to the police, the interception occurred at about 12:41am after personnel, acting on intelligence, spotted and intercepted the canoe.
The occupants of the canoe reportedly jumped overboard and escaped by swimming away under the cover of darkness after sighting the police patrol boat.
The abandoned canoe was subsequently towed to the Marine Police base for further examination.
A search of the canoe uncovered 29 sacks, each containing 70 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The total haul was 2,030 slabs.
The exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while the police have commenced efforts to identify and arrest the suspects who fled the scene.
Police said further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
