The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has said he will back the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket with prayer for the will of God to prevail.

Otumfuo made the comments when President Akufo-Addo introduced the NPP ticket comprising Drs. Mahamudu Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh to him at the Manhyia Palace Tuesday, July 09, 2024.

Touching on the arrogance tag on the running mate, who is also known as Nana Poku (NAPO), the Asantehene advised him to refrain from any acts of arrogance to prove his critics wrong.

According to the Otumfuo, although he advised NAPO in closed doors, he went ahead to repeat some of the things he said behind closed doors, telling him to stay humble go by the dictates of his boss, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“I have advised him indoors, but I will say it here too. Don’t let Dr Bawumia regret ever choosing you. Serve him and follow his instructions. Follow him with humility. Be obedient and do as he says.

“Some people are saying you are arrogant, and I was wondering why they were saying that because you were bred well with home-knowledge. Prove them wrong,” he counseled.

He advised further that, “Dr Bawumia I leave my grandson in your care. In case he errs, keep me informed and I will rebuke him in closed doors” adding that, “and when you get close, we’ll back you with prayer so that what the Lord has willed shall be fulfilled for us.”

Meanwhile, Kobby Mensah, a Political Communication Strategist and a Professor at the University of Ghana Business School, has said Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has failed the task of leadership for his inability to control his emotional environment.

Any leader that fails to control his control emotional environment when overwhelmed with emotions, according to the Political Communication Strategist, has failed the task of leadership.

“I thought that when he was overwhelmed with emotions, he could not control it. But leadership asks that if you are overwhelmed with emotions, you have to have the emotional intelligence to deal with it. If you are a leader and you can’t control your emotional environment, you have failed the task of leadership,” he said on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Tuesday, July 09, 2024.

Professor Mensah’s comments come on the back of a statement made NAPO during his unveiling to the public as Dr. Bawumia’s pair at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.

The posture and intonation of the Manhyia South lawmaker, according to the Professor, proved his critics right with the arrogance tag on him.

“I can boldly say that if the history of Ghana is told from 1957, we have never had a president that has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean from 1957, even including your Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” NAPO had said in Twi.
