Known for her versatility in movie roles for over two decades, Nana Ama McBrown has shared how she landed her first role as an actress.

The TV talkshow host has disclosed she joined Samuel Nyamekye’s Miracle Films over twenty years ago as a costumier.

She says she used to iron costume for then movie stars, Fred Amugi, Grace Nortey and a host of others.

On a set at Mankranso, a small town and capital of the Ahafo Ano South-West district in the Ashanti region, McBrown says she had to replace Selassie Ibrahim who was casted for a kitchen scene in a village but was not available.

She told Captain Smart on the Maakye show Monday, March 13, 2023, that “there was no female available on the set at that moment, and they asked me to try it and see. When I entered the kitchen, I prayed to God in my head that ‘God, I’ve been hungry for many years, please, see me through with this’ and that was it.”

Nana Ama gained prominence for her role in the television series, Tentacles, before her mainstream success following her role in the Kumawood movies ‘Asoreba’ and ‘Kumasi Yɔnkoɔ.

She has starred in many movies including those in the local dialect and English as well as Nollywood.

She later joined UTV and hosted United Showbiz until her latest move to Onua Group of the Media General family.

Prior to her arrival at the company’s premises Monday morning, on-air persons and some staff of Onua waited at the forecourt of Media General in T-shirts with inscription ‘Welcome to Onua TV, Nana Ama McBrown’ to welcome her.

With Captain Smart leading the team, she was introduced to those who welcomed her before she was ushered into her office.

Nana Ama will be handling talk shows and other current affairs programmes on Onua FM/TV.
