Management of Akoma FM, a subsidiary of the Media General Group has assured patrons of the just ended Verna Ashanti Marathon that the event has come to stay.

It would therefore be flagged as an annual household ritual.

Regional manager of Akoma FM Mathias Asante whilst addressing participants of the event explained that “we have realised that the people of Kumasi are more interested in the marathon so we will do as they wish. We will ensure this project doesn’t end here so we will have this marathon event at least once in a year.”

The Akoma FM’s Verna Ashanti Marathon which was described by the participants as crowd puller and intervention to revive the dwindling hopes of athletes in Ashanti region and beyond brought together over thousand athletes to participate in the event.

The maiden edition of the event kick started at the Kumasi City Mall at 7:13 am. The participants ran through the principal streets of Kumasi through Abrepo Junction, Ahodwo roundabout, Asafo, and ended at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where the aerobics session and presentation of awards to participants followed suit.

Winners of the maiden edition of the Akoma FM Verna Ashanti Marathon received various awards in cash, paraphernalia from sponsors and other dash outs.
