The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, paid a surprise visit to the Achimota and Ga North Municipal hospitals to assess the quality of healthcare services being provided to patients.
During his visit to the Achimota Hospital, Minister Akandoh interacted with patients, healthcare professionals, and hospital administrators. Patients expressed concerns about the long waiting hours, absence of staff, and high cost of medications.
A worried patient at the dispensary said, “I’ve been waiting for a long time just to hear my name and receive my medication. Although the nurses are friendly, it takes a long time to get treated.”
Another patient complained about the cost of services, saying, “I’m paying out-of-pocket for my treatment, and it’s expensive. I hope the hospital can improve its services and the government can also make healthcare more affordable.”
At the Ga North Municipal Hospital, patients also expressed concerns about the quality of services. One patient complained about the lack of diagnostic equipment at the laboratory and staff as well. Another complained saying, “I’ve been referred to another hospital for an operation because they don’t have the necessary equipment and anesthesia here. It’s inconvenient and delays my treatment.”
Minister Akandoh assured them that their feedback would be taken seriously. He directed the hospital administrators to address the issues raised and improve the quality of services.
The Minister’s visit aims to assess the healthcare system’s performance and identify areas for improvement. The Ghana Health Service and hospital administrators are expected to implement changes to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
