Ketu North MP, Edem Agbana, has described as “useless” and “reckless” the press conference by the Minority in Parliament for the dismissal of Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
He said the Minority’s call lack merit and only intended to malign the Minister.
The Minority Caucus at a press conference on Tuesday called for the immediate removal of Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, citing repeated diplomatic missteps that have left Ghana exposed internationally.
Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh accused the Minister of incompetence and failure to manage Ghana’s international relations effectively.
“Ghana has always been a model of stability and reliability abroad,” he said. “Under this Minister, that reputation is collapsing. We are now listed as a ‘migration risk’ by the United States and facing diplomatic setbacks with Israel and Europe—all preventable.”
“The Minority therefore calls on the President to remove Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from the Foreign Affairs portfolio immediately and appoint a competent diplomat with proven experience, steady judgment and a genuine commitment to Ghana’s long-term interests over personal political theatre,” he stated.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day’s The Big Issue,, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Edem Agbana explained that the Minister cannot be held responsible for another country’s decision to impose visa restrictions on Ghana.
“Yesterday’s press conference by the Minority was the most useless, most reckless press conference ever organised because it is a press conference that lacked substance.
“It is a press conference that they used the platform tom maliciously go after the Foreign Minister for nothing. It was the most useless press conference ever.
“The bare logic, the minimum logic is that, are they saying that the other 74 countries that have been listed by the United States in the visa sanctions they are talking about the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is the Foreign Affairs Minister in all those 74 countries? Is that the logic?” he remarked.
The Legislator noted that the Minority ought to have used their press conference to rather demand the return of former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta who is facing multiple charges for financial irregularities but currently residing in the United States.
“When the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was Ranking, we all saw the diligence and the seriousness with which he carried his work.
“I would have applauded the Minority if yesterday their press conference was to force their former finance minister to return to this country and give accountability. I would have taken them serious if their press conference was asking for the removal of Ablakwa because maybe he recklessly led the demolition of Embassy like they did to the Bulgarian Embassy in 2022,” he said.
