On Monday, January 16, 2023, “the mother of all cathedral scandals will be outdoored,” North Tongu legislator, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has hinted.
The MP who described the state of the Cathedral as a “galamsey site” said the scandal going to be released on Monday will send shivers down the spine of Ghanaians.
Already, almost GH₵400million has been spent on the project but is yet to see elevation beyond the foundation level.

There have been series of controversies ranging from spending of state funds on the project to resignation of some Board Members which have generated national debate for a year now.
Many have called for the abrogation or suspension of the project especially in the midst of the current economic turmoil.
But Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa on TV3’s KeyPoints Saturday, January 14, 2023, said what looms Monday is beyond the imaginations of every Ghanaian who thinks he has seen it all as far as the cathedral is concerned.

Responding to what the NDC would do with the Cathedral should they assume power in 2024, Mr. Ablakwa said he is not in leadership to make a comment in that regard since no official stance has been released by the party.
However, he believes their flagbearer, when elected, will lead for a decision to be taken to reflect in their manifesto.
The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee indicated he will suggest a forensic probe into the project whilst seeking Ghanaians’ views on the edifice if consulted on what next with the project.
“There has to be a full forensic probe into this national cathedral project. That’s the first thing I’ll recommend. Secondly, I’ll recommend and let me be honest that the party has not taken a position. I’m not in leadership so when the flagbearer is elected I’m sure that the flagbearer will lead discussions and our manifesto will reflect what we will do at that galamsey site.
“But if my view is sought, I’ll suggest that we seek the view of Ghanaians. Let the majority of Ghanaians decide. We will find out from Ghanaians what they think. Monday, the mother of all cathedral scandals will be outdoored,” he reiterated.
