Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has said he is not contesting for the Chairmanship of the party but rather seeking re-election.

According to him, he is not a contestant as far as he is the incumbent but rather seeking to be re-elected.

Many have questioned why the longest serving General Secretary of the party and Chairman are vying for same portfolio in the party whilst both have served well their respective roles.

The contest has brought a scuffle between Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary and Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, with the former releasing an audio to indict the commitment of the latter for the party.

He has accused him for sending the 2020 election to court without having evidence for the party.

When asked why the duo are contesting themselves for same position, he said he is the Chair and is seeking re-election whilst Asiedu Nketia is contesting him.

He told Captain Smart on Onua TV Thursday, December 15, 2022, that he as well as the party elders is not happy things have to get where they are after series of advice flew from the file and rank of the party for Asiedu Nketia to bow out of the chairmanship race but to no avail.

“I cannot tell how we got here because I still work closely with him. We always talk maybe recently because of the campaign which I’ve been working intensely for three weeks.

“We are not contesting each other. I’ve decided to go for re-election and he has decided to go and contest. So I’m not contesting because I am already the Chairman seeking to be reelected. He is rather contesting.

“I’m not sure the party leadership is happy about the situation. I myself I’m not happy for the party,” he revealed.
