Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region has called off the much advertised 24-hour economy walk scheduled for Thursday, December 21,2023.

According to the leadership, it became necessary that they suspend the activity to channel its concentration on the district level elections scheduled for the day.

Deputy regional Secretary of the party, Baah Acheamfuor, has been telling OnuaOnline the leadership will communicate a new date for the exercise after Thursday’s polls.

“We want to inform the people of Asanteman the postponement of our intended 24-hour economy walk due to some strategic reasons. For now, we want to concentrate on Thursday’s rescheduled elections at the over 200 electoral areas. After that, a new date will be communicated later. No matter what, the walk will come on because Ghanaians are prepared for it,” he stated.

The walk is to further create awareness on the new campaign message for the party and educate the public on the policy.

The 24-hour economy is a proposal made by the flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama. He says the policy is intended to reduce unemployment in the country. The initiative, he says, will not be compulsory and will have in place incentives for businesses who will adopt it, including subsidy for electricity tariff.
