Information reaching Onuaonline indicate five miners have been trapped to death in an illegal mining pit.
The incident occurred at Nangruma in the Mamprugu/Moaduri District in the North East Region.
The bodies of all five have been retrieved and burried.
Three were buried Monday night when the incident happened with the remaining two being interned today, Tuesday September 13, 2022, according to the Assemblyman for Yagaba Electoral Area.
Abu Adam is the Municipal Chide Executive for Mamprugu/Moaduri and he tells OnuaOnline what ensued.
“There was a heavy rainfall at Madugu so the five went to site to mine after the rains. There was a collection of water in some of the pit and they went with changfan to draw the water to enter the pit.
“When they realised the water was going in, they decided to enter the pit to draw the water. When the first person entered, he couldn’t return. The next person entered to find what was happening but he also didn’t return. They all entered one after the other until they all died,” he narrated.
