Members of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association have declared their intention to close down their shops Wednesday, November 1, 2023, to register their displeasure with the government over its new tax compliance module.

According to the Association, the government and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have failed to respond to their calls to reverse certain decisions taken to ensure the tax compliance and invigilation exercise.

At a press conference Monday, October 2, 2023, the Association gave government and the GRA a two-week ultimatum to rescind the decision to deploy a compliance task force to the spare parts hub to ensure tax compliance.

The traders, clad in red rejected the alleged plan by the GRA and described the move as an intimidation and utmost disrespect to the association.

Head of Communications for the Association, Takyi Addo, speaking in an interview with Onua News after the two-week ultimatum had elapsed expressed disappointment as the GRA had failed to engage the traders to smoke a peace pipe.

He has revealed that the traders are ready to close down their shops for three days beginning November 1 to send a strong signal to the government over the deployment of GRA officials at their shops for tax compliance.

”We are going to close down our shops on Wednesday November 1 and beyond to cement our firm position on the tax compliance and invigilation exercise,” he noted.

“We are not asking for suspension but a total abolishment of the policy as it only seeks to destroy our businesses and livelihoods,” he reiterated.

Takyi Addo was positive that the government would intervene and call GRA to order, otherwise they would throng the street and fight for their right to safeguard their commerce.
