Over 60 delegates in the Gomoa East constituency in the Central region have threatened a showdown against their executives for expunging their names from the party album.
According to reports, these delegates are persons alleged to be coming from the camp of Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
According to a report filed by Onua TV/FM’s Nana Yaw Asare, the affected persons, including the constituency Women’s Organiser, pleaded to be given the opportunity to vote since they are known delegates but the organisers said no.
He explained that the victims have threatened not to allow the counting to take place after the voting if they are not allowed to vote.
In all, 1010 delegates are expected to vote in the constituency. The Chairman and Secretary whom the delegates are blaming for the omission of their names say they are not going to allow the 60 persons to vote including their own Women’s Organiser since her name is not in the register.
However, reports indicate the 60 omissions have been replaced with other names who are not delegates in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has reiterated his readiness to support whoever emerges winner in the ongoing presidential polls in order to break the ‘8’ for the party.
The Assin Central lawmaker who is one of the frontrunners in the ongoing polls says he has psyched himself to tow that tangent irrespective of the outcome of the results even if he loses the poll.
“I have psyched myself for whatever the outcome will be. Even if I lose, I will still support the winner to break the 8,” he told journalists after casting his ballot Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Meanwhile, Mr. Agyapong says Ghanaians have have tried lawyers, soldiers, economists and others and it was time they tried a businessman which he says many have expressed readiness for.
He added that Ghanaians are looking for an honest and bold leader like himself and he was ready to defeat John Dramani Mahama if chosen by the NPP.
“I will beat Mahama hands down, no doubt about it. everywhere what Ghanaians are expecting is an honest and bold leader,” he indicated.
The NPP’s presidential primary is currently underway at 277 polling centres across the country.
Over 200,000 delegates are expected to vote in the exercise which is expected to end at 3:00pm.
Contesting for the flag bearer position of the party include Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.
Earlier on November 2, 2023, the four candidates were made to sign an undertaking not to leave the party even if the outcome of the November 4 poll does not favour them.
They signed the memorandum of understanding at a meeting with the National Council of Elders in Accra.
“We were able to get all the four aspirants to sign an undertaking and in summary, they are to accept the primary results, and promote peace and cohesion,” the party’s General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong told reporters.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also voted at the Party’s headquarters in Accra.
