A total of 50 aspirants have picked nomination forms to contest in the upcoming national executive elections of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The forms were picked as of the close of day on Saturday, August 22, 2026, which was the deadline for the purchase of forms.

Although the party is filling nine distinct portfolios, the National Vice Chairperson slot will produce three executives, made up of first, second and third vice chairpersons, bringing the total number of executive positions to 11.

For the National Chairperson position, five aspirants have picked forms. They are Paul Awentame Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

The incumbent Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who took a break in May 2025, is not seeking re-election.

In the General Secretary race, three aspirants; Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena, have picked forms to challenge the incumbent, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who is seeking a second term.

Meanwhile, media personality Gordon Asare-Bediako, who had initiated moves to contest the National Communications Director position, has withdrawn from the contest to throw his support behind Dennis Edward ‘Miracles’ Aboagye, leaving the race between Mr Aboagye and Evans Kodo.

Announcing his decision in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Mr Asare-Bediako said his move followed broad consultations within the party.

“This decision has not been an easy one. My ambition to serve in this role was born out of a genuine desire to help rebuild our party’s communication machinery and reposition the NPP for victory.

“That desire has not diminished, but I have come to the firm conviction that our party’s interest is best served by unity of purpose, not a division of energies. It is in this spirit that I am throwing my full and unreserved support behind Dennis Miracles Aboagye,” he stated.

The filing of completed nomination forms will commence on Sunday, August 23 and close on Saturday, August 29, with vetting scheduled from Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, 2026.

For the National Vice Chairperson position, 13 aspirants have picked forms. They include Henry Nana Boakye, who is moving from the National Organiser position; Kojo Fosu Boadu; Mustapha Abdul Hameed, former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority; Samuel Pyne, former Metropolitan Chief Executive for Kumasi and former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP; Richard Ahiagba, who is moving from the National Communications Director position.

The remaining are Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah; Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga Buga, who is seeking re-election; Yaa Amponsah Frimpong; George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah; Horma Miez; Richard Oti Aboagye; Bright Esselfie Kumi and Nana Akomea, former Managing Director of STC and former National Communications Director.

A press statement issued by the Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee, Fred Opare-Ansah, on Saturday, August 22, clarified that the purchase or collection of a nomination form does not by itself constitute a valid nomination, as an aspirant only becomes a nominee upon proper filing of the completed form within the prescribed period and after going through vetting.

The Committee also addressed concerns over the absence of a specific balloting date, explaining that the move is deliberate to allow filing, vetting and appeals processes to be concluded before a firm date is fixed.

This, the Committee says is to avoid a postponement, should an unresolved appeal affect the list of candidates.
