The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has announced that a Technical Working Group (TWG) will be constituted to comprehensively investigate public concerns regarding the widespread use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial passenger transport in Ghana, particularly on long-distance routes.

The Authority said the investigation is to inform regulatory actions.

In a statement issued on January 14, 2026, the NRSA said it has been informed that a significant number of these vehicles were originally manufactured as right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles and subsequently converted to left-hand drive (LHD) after importation.

NRSA says reports indicate that some of these converted vehicles may exhibit handling and stability challenges, especially at higher speeds and on curves, raising concerns about their roadworthiness and safety performance when used for commercial passenger transport.

The NRSA has since instituted a Technical Working Group to look into the concerns in line with its statutory mandate to promote safer road use and reduce road traffic crashes.

Pending the conclusion of the work of the Technical Working Group, the NRSA cautions motorists and the general travelling public to exercise heightened vigilance in the patronage and operation of Toyota Voxy vehicles used for commercial transport, particularly those that have been converted from Right Hand Drive to Left Hand Drive.

The Authority noted that its advisory is purely a precautionary public safety measure and does not constitute a final determination on the safety or roadworthiness of any vehicle category.

The Authority encourages road users to make informed decisions in the interest of personal safety pending investigations.
