Three persons have been confirmed dead after a tipper truck ran into a motor tricycle popularly known as ‘Aboboyaa’ at Akomadan in the Offinso North district of the Ashanti region.
The gory accident involving the tipper truck with registration number GT-7494-B according to eyewitnesses occurred on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
The victims included a pregnant woman who was returning home from ante-natal care and a private security officer who was on night duty.
There was also a teenage girl who was on an errand. 6 other victims survived with life-threatening injuries and have been sent to various health facilities including the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment.
9 people including the deceased were returning to Konkoma from Akomadan in the tricycle.
The tricycle is their mode of transport due to the bad state of the road network.
The driver of the truck has been detained by the police, according to a source at the Akomadan Police Station.
The incident is the second accident in three weeks in the Offinso North municipality with the first one killing a tricycle rider on the spot.
