Former Asante Kotoko coach and current Head Coach of Nsoatreman FC Maxwell Konadu believes the Porcupines’ current struggles are not due to coaching.

Kotoko have only one point from its last six Ghana Premier League matches, losing five of them.

After their recent defeat to Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, the fans booed the players and demanded that their head coach, Dr Prosper Ogum, stepped down.

However, Maxwell Konadu, reacting to this after the game, believes it is not the right decision to take at the moment.

”I don’t believe it is a coaching issue; when the players play, it is clear that they are afraid.

“The demands placed on the players appear to put them under additional strain; they lack the character required to play as a Kotoko player, which I believe is their issue.”

Maxwell continued that in order to prevent things from getting out of control, the players will need the support of the fans.

”This is the critical moment for the players to have the support of the media and fans. Much pressure from these stakeholders will not help matters; instead, fans should support the technical team and playing body in order to turn things around.”

Maxwell Konadu concluded strongly that Kotoko’s players are not all that bad and can play for any GPL team.

”The players are not bad, none of them will be a benchwarmer at any GPL club, but they appear to panic when playing.”

In their next GPL match, Kotoko will visit Dawu to take on Dreams FC, a team that is in the relegation zone.
